Wedding Q+A With MonAmye

I have Amye stopping by to share her beautiful wedding story with you all today :)

How did you meet? / or Engagement Story? ( Whichever one you would like to write about, or both if you wish)
He popped the big question on the Georgetown Waterfront in Washington, DC. Unknowingly, because it was a surprise, I resisted the entire day and almost ruined it all! But the story has a happy ending :) For all the details, I wrote our engagement story here: Part 1 and Part 2
Engagement Story | Wedding Wednesday | MonAmye.com

How many bridesmaids did you have? How did you go about choosing them?
I had four wonderful bridesmaids, and decided not to have a maid of honor - each of them are special, I couldn't choose just one! Each lady had certain designated tasks based on her personality and skills, and so each played an important part of the big day. Having four also made it manageable, rather than overwhelming, in the bridal suite before the ceremony. I felt surrounded by love and support from all of the important women in my life.

Spill some deets that went on. We wanna hear drama:
It was overcast all morning, and of course we had planned an outdoor ceremony AND an outdoor, un-tented dinner. There was an indoor "Plan B" which was beautiful, but not our dream day.
At one point everyone was looking at me to "call it" and move everything inside, and because we didn't want to see each other my groom and I were playing "messenger" down the hallway - it was awful! He didn't really know how I was feeling. I didn't want to make a decision for Us all by myself. And the clouds kept threatening.
Finally the photographer said to me "I do this every weekend. Keep it outside." I took the gamble. An hour later the clouds parted and blue skies appeared. I was relieved, to say the least, and so grateful that I trusted the expert!

What was your color scheme, and what made you choose it?
Our colors were a ballet pink with silver accents. Before any other decisions were made, I knew that I didn't want to commit to any bold colors, preferring a more neutral palette.
When we found our historic venue I knew a soft, antique-y look would work well to enhance rather than compete with the space. Then one of the bridesmaids found a dress in a soft peachy pink, and the decision was made for us! It was the perfect dress, and only came in one color, so that was it.
Wedding | Amye of Mon Amye blog
Did you do any DIY projects/etc?
We planned and prepared the whole wedding day ourselves, so I feel like the whole thing was DIY - down to buying everything for the bar! (it's a Pennsylvania thing). One thing I can point to, I suppose, was our "photo booth" props. We found this funky frame at Ikea and removed the glass, added some printable/DIY props and a couple fun family members and voila! An entire album of personality to cherish.
Wedding | Amye of Mon Amye blog
(there are so many good ones from the booth...but this is a fave!)
Wedding | Amye of Mon Amye blog
What was your favorite thing about your wedding day?
Favorite moment of the day, hands down, was finding my groom alone in the foyer after being separated for a while during the reception. It was nearing the end of the day, and all I wanted to do was see my guy! We had just a few moments before being discovered, but those quiet, stolen, ordinary moments - chatting, and then dancing when a fun song came on - were my favorite of the whole day.
Wedding | Amye of Mon Amye blog

If you could do it all over again, what would you do differently?
I can't think of much that I would have changed about our wedding day. It wasn't perfect, but at the end we were married among family and friends and threw a great party to celebrate! I made my new husband drive away reallllyyyy slowwwllly because I just didn't want that wonderful night to end.
What's your best piece of advice for future brides out there?
Everyone says don't stress, but that can be difficult to avoid. I'd say try to press pause between each moment of the day and just take a breath.
Hair and make up done? (pause, be still, clear your mind for just two seconds.) Dress and veil? (pause) Ready to walk down the aisle? (pause) Photo time with your love? (pause)
It is really just two seconds each time, no one even has to know. But it will help re-focus and center you, so you can be truly present to enjoy the moments as they come.
That, and don't be afraid to ditch the veil!

Wedding Q+A with Everyday With Lisa

Today I have Lisa discussing her beautiful wedding story with us today for my Wedding Q + A! Take it away!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When did you get married?

Doug and I got married on August 29, 2009!

How did you meet?
Doug and I met online; though we don't remember which site specifically. We actually talked online for about 5 years before we first met because he was seeing someone at the time. It wasn't until after he broke up with his girlfriend that we decided to officially meet; and we haven't looked back since.

What was the one thing you were most passionate about?

I put a lot of thought into our flowers, specifically because I wanted to use my bouquet as a way to remember my late Grandfather with a single red rose because those were his favourite flower.

What was your color scheme, and what made you choose it?

We kept it simple with blue and white.

Did you do any DIY projects/etc?

I did a TON a DIY projects! I did my own Save the Date cards, invitations and maps, programs, bathroom baskets, and seating chart. I am a huge DIY fanatic, so doing these things on my own was the best part!

What was your favorite thing about your wedding day?

The whole day was truly amazing and everything went the way it should!

If you could do it all over again, what would you do differently?

The only thing I would change about our wedding is the cake. Our cake came included with our venue package, but in hindsight we should have went to a professional bakery of our choice.

What's your best piece of advice for future brides out there?
Make your wedding your own! Though I pinned a ton of idea's on Pinterest I ensured that our wedding was true to us. Pinterest makes things look easy, but it only shows the end results. Be careful when doing some high-end DIY projects. The last thing you want to do is give yourself added stress. You can read my blog post about the perks and perils of a DIY wedding here.

The location of your wedding was so beautiful Lisa! Thanks so much for being a part of my Wedding Q+A Series!

Wedding Wednesday : Wedding Q + A With Lauren

Happy Wedding Wednesday friends! I hope this week brings you well! Today I have Lauren stopping by from Genuinely Lauren  to share her Wedding with you!

-------------------------------------------------------

When did you get married ( Month, date, year)

March 14th, 2014

How did you meet?

We met at a 3-day country music festival in Arkansas on the very first night. Which is pretty funny because I'm from Illinois and Blake is from Missouri! Our engagement story is really something, too. I'll give you the shortened/cliff notes version, but here are the full details (http://genuinelylauren.blogspot.com/2013/11/surprise-im-engaged.html) for another read. We were in a long distance relationship and Blake was visiting me for a week before he went off to boot camp. I was going out to dinner at Chipotle with one of my friends where my roommate from the previous year, who also graduated and no longer lived on campus, showed up! Obviously I was surprised to see her and she pulled out a letter saying that I was about to go on a scavenger hunt that was going to change my life. So, we traveled around campus where at each set location was another one of my friends with another letter. The scavenger hunt ended at my sorority house where Blake proposed infront of all of my close friends and my sorority sisters that we're studying in the kitchen, haha. He definitely hit the ball out of the park on the whole process!

What was the one thing you were most passionate about?

I think the thing I was most passionate about was all of the decor. I'm very DIY and wanted to give all of my own personal touches to every inch of the ceremony. From the koozies, chalkboard program, our Mr & Mrs sign, the vases for the tables. That might've been the most fun of all the wedding planning!

What color bridesmaid dresses did you have?

I originally wanted to have a Tiffany blue for the dresses but since it was a little difficult to find that color in March and there we're different shades of it. So I went with navy blue since it was easier to find one singular color and I wanted all of the bridesmaids to choose their own dress.

How long did it take you to find your wedding dress?

It was actually the fourth dress I tried on! I found it at David's Bridal. I did research before I went and it was one of the dresses I picked out to try on but told the girl I was working with about it right before she wanted to go in a different direction of the other dresses I already tried on. What luck! I knew it was the one because I didn't want to take it off and had the biggest smile on my face :)

Spill some deets that went on. We wanna hear drama:

Okay this one was my bad. I screwed up on not really asking two of my bridesmaids to be my bridesmaids. I talked to them about bridesmaids dresses before I even said I wanted them in the wedding. So I was a little insensitive on that end. And of course the day of the wedding our flowers weren't ready on time which more so stressed my mother out than it stressed me out. What's funny is that the same thing happened on my sister's wedding day two years before!

What was your color scheme, and what made you choose it?

Navy Blue and Tan. I really wanted to have a rustic feel. I originally wanted to do Tiffany Blue but Navy was more in season and matched well with Blake's Air Force dress uniform.

Did you do any DIY projects?

YES! Probably every inch of my wedding was DIY. Like I said, it was probably my favorite part of the whole wedding planning process and the wedding in general.

If you don't mind sharing what your budget was, and if you stayed on track or went over budget?
Since we planned our wedding was in 6 weeks, due to Blake having to report to his duty station, I guess we didn't really have much of a budget. I was very grateful for my parents to contribute a lot to the wedding so I have no idea what the total of the whole thing was. I think it ended up being around $8,000-10,000. But I know the portion that Blake and I paid for (hotels for guests, vests for groomsmen, gifts for bridal party, decor, my accessories) was $3,000 and that was our own budget and stuck to!

What was your favorite thing about your wedding day?

All day! It started with breakfast with my family, got my "Bride Starbucks", mimosas and hair at my house, and of course got stuck in traffic on the way to the ceremony. But it was all absolutely perfect!

What was the most stressful thing about your wedding day?

My makeup took a little longer than I would've liked which made me stress about getting to the space on time and having enough time for pictures. Just the whole picture taking process stressed me out because there we're so many I wanted to do and the weather wasn't exactly accommodating for being outdoors.

If you could do it all over again, what would you do differently?

I might have waited a month or so to do the wedding. Or to have our ceremony down here in Florida because it's absolutely dreamy. I really wanted to do an outdoor ceremony but March isn't exactly ideal timing a wedding in the North. But it still turned out to be everything I imagined even planning it in 6 weeks.

What's your best piece of advice for future brides out there?
My best piece of advice is to slow down. And I don't mean that in elongating the planning process or anything. I mean it in not rushing through the whole day. Take a minute, take a breath, and take the whole day in. It goes by way to fast and even my friends we're telling me to relax and not stress out about the little things. Because in the end, all you're going to remember is marrying your best friend and being with your friends and family. I was so blessed to have the support of everyone and come together in the short planning period we had and to make my dream wedding becoming a reality.
----------------------------------------------------------
Thanks so much Lauren! Your wedding was magical! I love the DIY projects and I think the color Navy ended up working really well!

Wedding Q+A With Jenn

Hey Friends! Happy Wedding Wednesday! Today I have another blogger for my Q+A Wedding Series.  I present to you, Jenn from Going the Distance! Her wedding turned out beautiful despite all the drama she had to face-- poor girl!  Luckily you were such a doll about it and didn't let it ruin the true meaning of what marriage is.    Take it away Jenn!

When did you get married?
April 12, 2014

How did you meet? / or Engagement Story?
MG and I met on Match.com, and he was actually the first guy I met from there!  He wrote me first and then we wrote back and forth for a couple of weeks before we decided to meet in person. The first time we were supposed to meet, an earthquake happened in DC and I couldn't get home in time for our date, so we moved it to Sunday. And over the weekend there was a hurricane. We DID actually meet up, but we always joked that even a zombie apocalypse wasn't going to cancel our first date! :)

**Fun fact: MG's name on my blog came from originally being called Match Guy and then I shortened it to just MG.**
Our first date was at Cava Mezze in Arlington, VA and on our wedding day we went back there and took a picture where it all began:

What was the one thing you were most passionate about?
I wasn't terribly picky about things like flowers, the cake, etc. I had ideas about them all, but I just wanted everything to look nice, and not cost a fortune. The thing I wanted most at our wedding was a photo booth, and thanks to a Living Social deal we were able to get one and I'm SO glad that we did--it was a total hit and we have some amazing photos of everyone from it!

What was the most awkward thing about wedding planning?

I guess the most awkward part was discussing prices with vendors and negotiating.I hate doing it and always feel bad asking for more things for less money, but it's part of the business and I got over it relatively quickly!

How many bridesmaids did you have? How did you go about choosing them?

I had 5 bridesmaids and a junior bridesmaid. Two were MG's sisters, and the junior bridesmaid was his oldest niece. One of my bridesmaids has been my friend since 6th grade (Crystal), another was my roommate in college (hey Trish!), and my Maid of Honor was my coworker-turned roommate-turned best friend, Genna!

How long did it take you to find your wedding dress?
I've talked about the dresses that didn't make the cut on my blog before, but it didn't take me long to find The One. I went to two stores and at the second one, I found my dress. I went to one other store after that to try on some more Casablanca dresses and really reassure myself that it was the one. I knew it was my dress because my face lit up when I saw myself in the mirror, I didn't want to take it off, and my friend Trish who is a self proclaimed sarcastic person was like "that even made me tear up a little!" lol

Spill some deets that went on. We wanna hear drama!:

Oh, the drama!! There's so much of it that I can't contain it in this one post, but I'll direct you here and here to read ALL about the major drama that surrounded our wedding. Other drama before our wedding included a friend talking badly about me the week of my wedding for not sending out thank you notes for my bachelorette party (I've never gotten a thank you note from a bachelorette party before, including from the girl who was talking about me--I just didn't think I needed to send a formal note to my closest friends when I expressed, in person, how much it meant to me and how thankful I was, repeatedly, that they were there), and then there was drama with one of MG's cousins asking for her boyfriend to come, then telling us that her boyfriend wasn't coming, then a few days later that he was again....all days before the wedding...
Bottom line is: sometimes people get crazy surrounding weddings. It happens. You just have to move forward and focus on what and who is important.

What was your color scheme, and what made you choose it?

Purple and silver were our colors. I've always loved purple since I was a kid, so that was a given, and since the guys were wearing gray suits, silver/grey was our other color.

Did you do any DIY projects/etc?
I DIY'ed my table numbers and escort cards, as well as the programs. My blog bestie Shay helped me design them, and then I printed, cut and folded them myself.

If you don't mind sharing what your budget was, and if you stayed on track or went over budget?
I'll share with you that we had a budget and we stayed super on track! We even had some money left over at our venue that we used to get draping behind our head table with purple uplighting which made everything look extra pretty! It was the perfect way to use the extra $$$

What was your favorite thing about your wedding day?
I have to say two parts: 1) saying my vows with MG...I can still picture being on the altar and listening to MG say his vows, and then telling him mine and it makes me smile to this day.
2) My father-daughter dance with my dad. I had been really worried about his health and how he would make it through the day, but he was a trooper and our dance was everything I had hoped it would be and more.

What was the most stressful thing about your wedding day?

Honestly, the only thing that stressed me out was feeling not 100% and very tired on the morning of my wedding. The glasses of wine that kept getting refilled at our rehearsal dinner did not do me well the next morning. Luckily once I got a couple slices of pizza in me, I was good to go!

If you could do it all over again, what would you do differently?
Honestly, I don't think I would do much differently, other than monitoring those glasses of wine from the night before a little better, but everything went so well that I really don't have many regrets.

What's your best piece of advice for future brides out there?
Try not to stress, especially over the little things (you will be the ONLY person who notices the tiny stuff). What can get done, will get done, and if it doesn't, it won't matter much in the grand scheme of things. Focus on the important part of the day (you're marrying the love of your life and best friend!). Don't let other people steal your joy. And if you can afford it, get a videographer--it wasn't in our original budget but we got one and I'm SO glad that we did! The memories that were captured are priceless :)

Wedding Q+A Series With Made In The Shade

The lovely Bride Q+A Series continues on this beautiful Tuesday!  Today I have Rebecca from Made In The Shade stopping by to share her Wedding Story with all of you!

Hi! I'm Becky!

When did you get married ?
June 8th, 2013 - the day of our first date, 3 years later!

How did you meet?
We are both nurses, and met at the hospital one day while I was working as a student nurse and he was having his nursing clinical. Now I always have someone to tell my gross stories to!

What was the one thing you were most passionate about?I cared the most about my dress (which had pockets!), that the flowers were real, and the venue.

What was the most awkward thing about wedding planning?
Knowing when to pay the vendors when its close to time for the wedding - convos about money are just so awkward!

How many bridesmaids did you have? How did you go about choosing them?
I had 6 - it was just a number that worked out for both my husband and I. I had my sister, a previous room mate, and 4 nursing school friends!

How long did it take you to find your wedding dress?
I actually had 3 appointments booked at 3 stores, but found it in the first one. I had a pretty good idea of what I wanted - pockets, strapless, and a little bit poofy!

Spill some deets that went on. We wanna hear drama:
I didn't have too much drama thank goodness! The florist did deliver the flowers several hours late, but other than that it all turned out great!

What was your color scheme, and what made you choose it?
I love the color mint green, and knew we wanted daisies and hydrangeas. So mint, white, and a little yellow were our colors!

Did you do any DIY projects/etc?
Yes!! My wedding was full of DIY's, from the centerpieces, backdrop behind the table, floral arrangements, favors, table runners, etc! I was my own wedding planner and loved every minute of it! You can go to the link below to find how to DIY some wedding ideas of your own!
http://www.madeintheshadeblog.com/p/diys-at-glance.html#.VG1QPcnIliY

If you don't mind sharing what your budget was, and if you stayed
on track or went over budget?
Our budget was about $12000 - 14000. We stayed pretty true to that, but we did a lot of DIY work, I got a lot of things off of etsy, and I was my own wedding planner to save a lot of money. It can be done, but you just have to do a lot of things yourself instead of paying someone else!
What was your favorite thing about your wedding day?Our first look together, and our first dance. I also really loved our photographer!

What was the most stressful thing about your wedding day?
It actually wasn't the wedding day, it was the rehearsal dinner. Because we didn't have a wedding planner I was overwhelmed. I recommend if you go this route to designate a family or friend to answer all the questions at the rehearsal for you!

If you could do it all over again, what would you do differently?
Absolutely nothing! I loved every minute of our day and would replan it all in a heart beat!

What's your best piece of advice for future brides out there?

Try to stay stress free, no matter what you'll be so happy on your wedding day you won't care about much else! And if you are looking to save money, DIY is the way to go!

Go here for more wedding pictures and ideas!

Wedding Wednesday Q+A

The lovely Bride Q+A Series continues on this beautiful Wednesday!  Today I have Meghan from Champagne and Suburbs sharing her Wedding with you today.

When did you get married
David and I got married June 28, 2014.

How did you meet?
DG moved to NC in August to teach.  He worked at the school where my dad was an assistant principal, which happens to be 3 miles away from where I also teach.  An old family friend of my family's was the principal who hired DG, and he kept trying to set me up with DG.  One Saturday in February, I met an old college friend for a drink.  She told me that two guys were coming to meet us.  I thought she was trying to set me up, but she told me one was married and explained the other guy was tagging along because he was helping her run her soccer tryouts at the high school she taught at.
DG walked in and started chatting and I was pretty distant.  I was on again, off again with a guy from college and we had plans later.  DG told me that he coached soccer and I asked where.  He told me what school and I asked if he taught there.  He told me yes and I said "Oh, funny story!  Your principal has been trying to set me up with you since he hired you in August."  He said that no one had told him about that.  I said "Yes because I wasn't interested."  And we've been together ever since that night.

Engagement Story:
We got engaged on December 5, 2012.  I thought we were taking Christmas card pictures in our new house, but he was really planning on proposing to me and having someone there to take pictures.  His friend came over to take our pictures and they were acting ridiculous.  I mean... one of our pictures was a pose that looked like the DVD cover of Stepbrothers.  I got so annoyed, so his friend said "Can you just come see if you can use one of these pictures?"  As I was looking at the pictures, I saw pictures of DG in the clothes he had worn to work that day on his knee and I got really upset.  I thought they were playing a joke on me, and his friend said "Shut up and turn around."  When I did, DG was on his knee.

What was the one thing you were most passionate about?
I was passionate about making our wedding a reflection of us.  I wanted it to be light hearted, fun, and down to earth.

What was the most awkward thing about wedding planning
So, it was really umcomfortable the night we got engaged that people asked if we had set a date.

How many bridesmaids did you have? How did you go about choosing them?

I had 10.  My childhood best friend and my college best friend were my matrons of honor and stood with me during the ceremony.  I picked my best high school friend, my best college friends, and then my best adult friends to be my bridesmaids.

How long did it take you to find your wedding dress?
I got engaged literally 3 days after going wedding dress/bridesmaid dress shopping for a friend.  So when I went to order my bridesmaid dress, I walked in and saw what I always envisioned my dream dress looking like.  I asked to try it on and it looked awful.  What was worse, is the consultants didn't help me in and out of the dress and wouldn't help me find other dresses.  I went back with a friend because the store had such a huge selection and I was incredibly disappointed again.  Both times I ended up crying in the fitting room.   Another friend got her dress from Lana Addison, a locally owned boutique, and I made an appointment.  My mom came and a few friends who brought Andre Extra Dry.  We had the best time and my consultant really listened.  I found my dress and ended up buying it that day.  It was amazing.

Spill some deets that went on.

I'm convinced weddings bring out the worst in people.  Our DJ was a DISASTER.  We had a spot on our RSVP card for our guests to request a song.  A week before the wedding, we met with him for 3 hours where we went through every single song we wanted played in our 4 hour reception.  On the night of our wedding, he played 6.  SIX!   He also cussed out my day-of coordinator and brought too many speakers, lights, and set up in front of the show piece of the reception.  Also, at our ceremony venue, they didn't cut the grass or fill the fountain which was our backdrop for the ceremony.  But it's all okay.

Any drama? We wanna hear drama!
The most significant drama was that my in-laws didn't like a single decision made.  My father-in-law went around to guests at the rehearsal dinner and said he hoped DG left me at the alter the next day.  I haven't spoken to them since the wedding except for my mother-in-law to tell me how awful the entire weekend was and to blame me for that.  My husband still hasn't spoken to his father.  So, if you have a great relationship with your in-laws, don't take that for granted!

What was your color scheme, and what made you choose it?
Our color scheme was gold, cobalt blue, coral, and cream.

Did you do any DIY projects/etc?

I made glitter champagne flutes for the bridesmaids luncheon, frames for the tables, all the calligraphy, and my mom and I made cotton boutonnieres for the groomsmen.

If you don't mind sharing what your budget was, and if you stayed on track or went over budget?

My budget was $25,000 and we hit right at that.

What was your favorite thing about your wedding day?

I loved having all of my favorite people around for one day.  Loved it.  The entire day was incredible.

What was the most stressful thing about your wedding day?
Trying to make a call about the weather.  It was supposed to rain on the day of our wedding, and they wanted me to call it and move it inside.  I refused, and the weather was perfect!  June could be really hot in NC, but it was about 70 degrees.

If you could do it all over again, what would you do differently?

Honestly, we would have eloped and had a big party when we returned.  DG was the one who wanted a wedding; I wanted to elope.  We had the best time and loved our experience, but I still would have eloped.

What's your best piece of advice for future brides out there?
Seriously, do what makes you and your husband happy.  If you try to make others happy, you either won't make yourself happy or they'll still be displeased.  It's your day with your fiance and that's all that matters.  Also, don't take it too seriously.  We arrived at the Rose Garden early, so we took a spin to a local bar and had a glass of champagne before walking down the aisle.  It was hands down one of my favorite parts of the day.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thanks so much for being a part of my wedding series Meghan! It was so great to have you and I thought it was very helpful!
