Is The Beverage Package Worth It On A Cruise?

The husband and I like to enjoy ourselves while on vacation--especially on cruises. When we were planning our honeymoon cruise back in 2014, we really contemplated whether or not the beverage package would be worth it for us. In case you don't know, if you are wanting the beverage package on a cruise, everyone in the room has to pay for one. You can't just have one person get it and mooch drinks off of them. (That would be too good to be true)

You may be wondering if it would be the right choice for you. It can be confusing going through the many details of the different variations of packages.  You may be asking yourself The Classic Package? The Premium Package?  Shelling out all that money all at once may seem really expensive, especially considering you’ve already put out the money for the cruise itself.

You need to keep in mind that not all cruise companies offer the same packages, and some companies do not offer them at all if you are cruising less than 5 days. You also need to decide what drinks you normally will have on-board. Are you more of a wine drinker or do you like to mix it up and have some cocktails and mix in a glass of wine for dinner?  Some cruises offer beer and wine packages which are cheaper than the premium packages that offer both mixed drinks and beer and wine. Also keep in mind that most cruise ships allow 2 bottles of wine per guest to bring on board. (You can also be sneaky and put your favorite vodka in a wine bottle and sneak it on.)

Check the price lists and compare. Most cruise websites will show you the price list. A glass of wine could be $12, cocktails $12, Beer $6. Keep in mind that does not include gratuities if you are purchasing as you go. A lot of the time, the beverage package includes the gratuities. In fact, I do not know a cruise that does not include the gratuities in the beverage package price. Those $1 tips could add up fast (As we learned on our honeymoon).

Most of the drink packages include bottled water. This was the most requested item. I always had a bottle of water on hand when exiting the cruise for our excursions and the amount of water I drank alone would have costed well over the daily drink package price.
Obviously the drink package price differs per cruise, but it was worth it for us.  We would have paid a lot more at the end of the cruise if we were to have paid as we went. For us it was well worth it to not have to limit what we wanted. The drink package include the sodas and juices as well so we were able to enjoy fresh orange juice whenever we wanted.

Cruises also offer Non-Alchoholic packages that include juices, bottled water and sodas. This may be the best for you if you prefer to stay away from alcohol or if you have children who would take advantage of the soda, water and juice. (You can always get a soda and bring it off the ship to enjoy during the day so you don't need to purchase any off ship)

It may seem difficult to shell out the money before hand (Although they do offer to add on the drink package on board) but for us it was well worth it and we ended up saving a lot of money in the long run. We were also able to try new drinks without the worry of "wasting" money on them if we did not like them. It's also more relaxing knowing we didn't have to worry about budgeting for drinks. We just hand over the card and it was taken care of.

If we were to break it down, we would have spent $30 more dollars or so per day if we were to pay per drink without the drink package.

Additional Thoughts (Thanks to Savored Journeys for pointing these out)

  • Something to think about when deciding if a drink package is worth it is the gratuity that is added to each drink without the package. An 18% service charge will be added to waters, sodas, and wine when you purchase. Most package prices either include the 18% service charge when you buy-- not per drink
  • It’s a good idea to consider how many sea days and port days you have. If you are having a lot of port days, you may be better off paying for drinks as you go. Unless you want to bring a few bottled waters or sodas off the ship every day.
What are your thoughts on the benefits of purchasing a drink package? Do you think buying the beverage package is worth it on a cruise? I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Weekend Shenanigans

I never thought I would be so excited for the weekend to get shit done. This past weekend I literally ADULTED so hard. Because we are leaving for two weeks to Alaska, I wanted to start packing, laundry, clean the house (I love coming home to a clean house), and spend some time working on new designs for my business. I spent some major time buying new props to take photos of my products with. I am so excited for my new flat lays! (I guess this is what adulting is like? Getting excited over a flat lay.)

I spent some time with instagram stories over the weekend. So you can see behind the scenes, what goes into an instagram post, and special coupon codes will be featured there! I've been majorly working on photography for my business, and it's both fun and frustrating at the same time. What do you think?

You can get your very own BOSS BABE travel mug here. (& Yes, it's BPA free!)
Use code BLOGBABE for 15% off. (Plus FREE shipping)

My girlfriend got engaged to her Englishman over the weekend and I of course had to make her a goody basket perfect for your newly engaged friends or family! (Who doesn't want to show off that new bling with these goodies?)

Purchase your very own Engagement Gift box with 5 items here.

Which one is your favorite? Sound off in the comments.

In the meantime, I will be out of town until September 2nd! I cannot wait for our travel adventures! I'll be posting as much as possible on Instagram, so make sure to check me out!

Wedding Color Palette

When I originally started planning our wedding, I knew I wanted to incorporate my favorite color. (Tiffany Blue) I was very particular of the color. I didn't want turquoise or baby blue, I wanted a mint/tiffany blue. I had all these great ideas on decor and once I continued planning I thought it would be fun to incorporate my other favorite color into the mix. (Coral).

As a graphic designer, I love colors that compliment each other, and being that Tiffany Blue and Coral are on the opposite sides of the color wheel, I knew it was the perfect match. I love how they make each other pop!

Now that I was able to incorporate my two favorite colors into our wedding, I was even more excited than when I first started planning! (Is that even possible?)  I originally wanted Tiffany blue dresses and coral flowers, but I loved the coral dresses we found and had to switch it up. The color and design was so beautiful.

I love the bright dresses with the shimmering stones. I knew I wanted something completely different than the normal wedding trends. I wanted flashy dresses.  Because my wedding dress was sweetheart, I wanted my bridesmaids to match. So we found their dresses in sweetheart style as well.  I gifted them these pretty matching bracelets I found on this etsy shop, AMI Designs

At first I wanted to have Tiffany Blue in my bouquet, but I love the color against the girls dresses (and plus I am a total Bling Bride.) So I chose to have a rhinestoned bouquet and my girls had the Tiffany Blue.

I love how well the two colors compliment each other, and because we had a summer wedding (July) I wanted it to be fun and pop!

I wanted my Flower girl and ring bearer pillows to match too! I couldn't find the photo I have of them, but here's one off her site.  I changed the grey to be Tiffany Blue.
Ordered from CutieButtsBoutique, however I am not sure if she still makes them.

My Pinterest Inspired Wedding

Nowadays Pinterest has pretty much taken over the world. Not a day goes by where I don't check up on pinterest to see some inspiration!  When I was planning my wedding, I went to pinterest for ideas, inspiration, and motivation! I will share with you my inspiration and then my actual wedding! It's so cool how everything comes together after all that planning!

I searched forever for these inspiration dresses and found out they were between $300-400 each, so I went on a hunt to find something just as beautiful for a huge fraction of the price!  My girls dresses were found in downtown LA for $80 per dress.

This was also another inspo for hair:

And then I had my inspiration for my nails for my Bachelorette Cruise!

One. Year. Anniversary

I still am in shock that an entire year has flown by.  On this day, last year, we said our "I Do's."  This day means so much to me and I will forever cherish it.

We have accomplished so much within the last year, with our jobs, and me starting my Etsy shop.  We have so much to look forward to in the future :)

My time with you has been the happiest and it just gets better every day.

You can check out our (almost complete) list of wedding activities here. I still need to finish it.  It's taking me over a year!  I have slacked so much on my blog this past year, but that just means I am spending more time with loved ones then on the computer.  So, in retrospect, It's for the better. At least for now.

So this weekend we decided to do something somewhat simple and visit one of our favorite places, Vegas.  Because we live only a three hour drive away, it was the perfect place for us to visit.  Not only that, but we spend so much time together already, so we wanted to make it a celebration, therefore we invited a bunch of friends! You can follow along via Instagram to see what we're up to!

P.S. Don't forget to linkup with Bella and I for our weekly Weekend Recap.  I'll update my Vegas weekend soon!

Wedding Q+A With MonAmye

I have Amye stopping by to share her beautiful wedding story with you all today :)

When did you get married ( Month, date, year)
July 29 2012
How did you meet? / or Engagement Story? ( Whichever one you would like to write about, or both if you wish)
He popped the big question on the Georgetown Waterfront in Washington, DC. Unknowingly, because it was a surprise, I resisted the entire day and almost ruined it all! But the story has a happy ending :) For all the details, I wrote our engagement story here: Part 1 and Part 2

How many bridesmaids did you have? How did you go about choosing them?
I had four wonderful bridesmaids, and decided not to have a maid of honor - each of them are special, I couldn't choose just one! Each lady had certain designated tasks based on her personality and skills, and so each played an important part of the big day. Having four also made it manageable, rather than overwhelming, in the bridal suite before the ceremony. I felt surrounded by love and support from all of the important women in my life.

Spill some deets that went on. We wanna hear drama:
It was overcast all morning, and of course we had planned an outdoor ceremony AND an outdoor, un-tented dinner. There was an indoor "Plan B" which was beautiful, but not our dream day.
At one point everyone was looking at me to "call it" and move everything inside, and because we didn't want to see each other my groom and I were playing "messenger" down the hallway - it was awful! He didn't really know how I was feeling. I didn't want to make a decision for Us all by myself. And the clouds kept threatening.
Finally the photographer said to me "I do this every weekend. Keep it outside." I took the gamble. An hour later the clouds parted and blue skies appeared. I was relieved, to say the least, and so grateful that I trusted the expert!

What was your color scheme, and what made you choose it?
Our colors were a ballet pink with silver accents. Before any other decisions were made, I knew that I didn't want to commit to any bold colors, preferring a more neutral palette.
When we found our historic venue I knew a soft, antique-y look would work well to enhance rather than compete with the space. Then one of the bridesmaids found a dress in a soft peachy pink, and the decision was made for us! It was the perfect dress, and only came in one color, so that was it.

Did you do any DIY projects/etc?
We planned and prepared the whole wedding day ourselves, so I feel like the whole thing was DIY - down to buying everything for the bar! (it's a Pennsylvania thing). One thing I can point to, I suppose, was our "photo booth" props. We found this funky frame at Ikea and removed the glass, added some printable/DIY props and a couple fun family members and voila! An entire album of personality to cherish.

(there are so many good ones from the booth...but this is a fave!)

What was your favorite thing about your wedding day?
Favorite moment of the day, hands down, was finding my groom alone in the foyer after being separated for a while during the reception. It was nearing the end of the day, and all I wanted to do was see my guy! We had just a few moments before being discovered, but those quiet, stolen, ordinary moments - chatting, and then dancing when a fun song came on - were my favorite of the whole day.

If you could do it all over again, what would you do differently?
I can't think of much that I would have changed about our wedding day. It wasn't perfect, but at the end we were married among family and friends and threw a great party to celebrate! I made my new husband drive away reallllyyyy slowwwllly because I just didn't want that wonderful night to end.
What's your best piece of advice for future brides out there?
Everyone says don't stress, but that can be difficult to avoid. I'd say try to press pause between each moment of the day and just take a breath.
Hair and make up done? (pause, be still, clear your mind for just two seconds.) Dress and veil? (pause) Ready to walk down the aisle? (pause) Photo time with your love? (pause)
It is really just two seconds each time, no one even has to know. But it will help re-focus and center you, so you can be truly present to enjoy the moments as they come.
That, and don't be afraid to ditch the veil!
