Back to that Q+ A again, this time with Kate from Green Fashionista. I have followed Kate's blog for quite some time now. Love her blog, love her! Time for her Q+A. If this is your first time and you'd like to see some previous Q+A's with some other lovely bloggers, feel free to check them out here.
When did you get married?
We got married on June 26th, 2010
How did you meet? / or Engagement Story?
We met at my favorite outdoor bar on the water *when we still lived in CT* in the summer of 2008. My best friend introduced us who I met at freshman orientation in college, but she and my husband grew up in the same town and went to high school together. I've jokingly questioned her as to why she took so long to introduce us!
How many bridesmaids did you have? How did you go about choosing them?
I had 6 Bridesmaids and my younger cousin was a Jr. Bridesmaid. I chose my best friend who introduced us as my maid of honor of course, and the rest of my wedding party was comprised of my future sister in-law, cousins, and good friends from over the years.
What was your color scheme, and what made you choose it?
My color scheme was gold and soft pink with cream accents. I wanted a soft romantic glow at the reception, and had a lot of candles around the centerpieces and the fire place by the dance floor was filled with glowing candles, it was really pretty.
What was your favorite thing about your wedding day?
My favorite thing about my wedding day other than marrying the love of my life and best friend of course was having everyone in my life that I love in one room. Several amazing family members have passed away since then, and I am so thankful that I had everyone there to celebrate and will always cherish those moments and the beautiful pictures.
What was the most stressful thing about your wedding day?
Feeling sick while taking pictures before the ceremony. My jaw started shaking while trying to smile for pictures and I got really hot and nauseous. I ended up running off to the bathroom where I thought I was going to be sick. Thankfully, I never got sick but my mom had to run cool wash cloths over me and my wedding coordinator got me some ginger-ale and peanut butter crackers. Turns out it was a combination of it being too hot, my dress was laced up too tight, and I hadn't eaten enough. A few grapes off the fruit platter in the bridal suite combined with champagne was bad for business.
If you could do it all over again, what would you do differently?
There's a lot of things I would have done differently.. including eating more before we started taking pictures before the ceremony. I also would have taken more time to take it all in and really be in the moment. When they say the day goes by in the blink of an eye and to try to slow down and enjoy it they mean it.
What's your best piece of advice for future brides out there?
Enjoy being engaged... you'll only be engaged for a short time, but you'll be married for the rest of your life. Live in the moment and enjoy the engagement party, registering for gifts, bridal showers, bridesmaid get togethers, dress fittings, and of course your bachelorette. Concentrate on all the fun events leading up to the big day. Also, don't be afraid to do a "first look" with your future husband. It was such a special moment, and his reaction to seeing me for the first time was priceless and we were able to have some time together before the craziness of the rest of the day and was the only moment where it was just the two of us until the wedding was over. Plus, it took absolutely nothing away from my walk down the aisle.
Such wonderful advice! Thank you so much Kate! Wow! Getting sick on the actual day? That is one of my biggest fears. Thankfully you were ok for the rest of the day!
I love your little details! Your bouquet is gorgeous!
Thanks so much for your honesty, I have never really thought about me only being engaged for a short while. Although I have had a year and a half engagement, that all went by too quickly, and in just a short 4 months, it will be my turn to walk down that aisle. I need to focus on soaking in everything because I know I will miss it! (Even the stressful parts) Thank you for sharing your advice to me and to my blog followers! You made an absolute gorgeous bride Kate!

Thank you so much for putting this all together :)
ReplyDeleteYes, you will definitely miss the engagement part, but of course the being married part is so much better. Enjoy every second and all the amazing parties and get togethers that are coming up!
Wow! What a beautiful wedding! I am in love with your color scheme! How did you choose your venue?
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! :)
DeleteWe knew we wanted to get married outdoors on the water, so we chose a resort that specializes in weddings on the CT shoreline and booked it a year and a half in advance since it books up so quickly. It was a wonderful venue, and the food/drinks were also amazing.
Oh that's a really good idea. Looks like a beautiful location! How did you capture your special day?
DeleteLove her advice for brides to be. I want to do a first look before the ceremony for that exact reason- having a few minutes alone!
ReplyDeleteLove that advice! I've been told by everyone to make sure that I eat enough for the very reason she mentioned. We're not doing a first look, and I'm currently trying to figure out when we will have any alone time.
