Unique Christmas Decor

I'm just going to come out and say it.
I am a FREAK when it comes to researching.

Not kidding.

So when Christmas was approaching, the first thing I did was research unique Christmas decor ideas.  Something different than the usual average decor that everyone and there cats grandmother has.  I found a few to be pretty much amazing, and here they are:

[ONE]

This my friends is made from an upside down tomato plant cage.  Yes friends.  How simple is that?  Throw some lights around it and add a topper and you've got yourself the easiest decor I've seen in a while.
Love love love this idea!

[TWO]

If you are really struggling for ideas with no money to spare. Then this is just for you:

You literally throw some books in a pile and wrap some beads, add a star and you've got yourself a unique tree to have on display wherever you please.

[THREE]

If you have a lot of random bottle hanging around your crib, then this is the project for you.  Not as simple as the previous ideas, but talk about a "Wow" factor.

I would totally be game to do this if I had a bunch of bottles AND the time to do this.   It would be so cool!
Could you imagine all your friends talking about your totally awesome Christmas tree idea?  You'd be the talk of the town for weeks!

[FOUR]

This is perfect if you have some frames, boards, or similar lying around your home.  Just cut up or print out your own snowflakes, or other art and string them in with a clip!  Simple, cute and unique!

[FIVE]

If you are looking for an alternative to number 1, then this ladder would be perfect for you.

Source

Especially if you have a random shabby old ladder lying around your house. (Who does ?)   I love how you can decorate it with lights, add some bulbs and maybe a plant on top that was already lying around your home.
I would also probably add some ribbon in the mix.

Do you have any unique Christmas decor that you are dying to try?

Things I've Learned While Planning Our Wedding.

People will not RSVP {no matter how hard you try} - This meme says it all:

It's true.  You would like to think when you self address an envelop and provide a stamp to send back an RSVP, that people would think it was easy.  Sorry Girlfran. No matter how hard you try, there will be a select few {or more} that will refuse to RSVP.
You can expect a text or a facebook message the day before or wedding {or on your wedding} IF THAT.

Even those who are nice enough to mail an RSVP may not even show up. {Sucks doesn't it}...they'll come up some lame excuse to not come last minute. I'd like to send a big thank you to those who RSVP'd and didn't bother showing up, I'm glad we paid for your dinner which was not cheap. Thanks for that.

Don't expect your bridesmaids to help.  I guess I just thought they would have done the research {As I would have} and help the Bride the day of.  My poor pregnant Bridesmaid who did my hair and makeup barely got to get ready because the other girls wouldn't help clear her stuff up after she tried asking them to.  Yes some {or all} may make an effort to help.  {If that's the case-- I envy you}

The day goes by ridiculously fast.  You may not even notice some things.  {Thank goodness for photos and videos}. Try to make an effort to go to each table but do it quick, otherwise you'll miss half the night talking to people when you could be getting your jig on on the dance floor.  My best advice: Go to the guests you see less often first, then go by the ones you see on the daily.

Thank goodness for our coordinator to keep us on top of things {although we didn't get to eat}. She really did amazing and had two assistants making sure we didn't run into each other throughout the day and made sure we were on time, and moved some items from the ceremony to the reception before guests arrived.  She was wonderful.  Seriously guys, I recommend at least hiring a day of coordinator!  Who else is going to line up the guys, and make sure all the vendors arrive on time?  Trust me, that's the last thing you want to deal with on YOUR wedding day.

Bring flats.  You will not want to be running around in heels all day. {It's a LONG day}

Have fun, laugh all day and all night. {The camera will most likely be on you anyways}.  Make sure to give your photographer a list of the photos you need to have.  You will be too busy the day of to remember.  Trust me you will have a lot on your mind.

Showered With Design

Friday evening I was pretty much a grandma. I never thought I would find myself home on a Friday evening with no motivation to even want to go out.  The hubby spent most of Friday getting our yard to look clean and organized.  You may be thinking, organized?  Well he trimmed some of the trees back and placed red bark in to make it look clean.  So I was nice and let the hubby go out with his friends while I got some things done around the house, and mostly got caught up on some of my favorite TV shows: Nashville and Stalker.  Have you seen either of these shows?? I am obsessed {to say the least}.  I also worked on a few personalized ornament orders I had.  If you're interested in making a purchase, check out my Etsy shop for more details.

Saturday morning I woke up early to head to the mall with my mom.  We of course had to stop at Starbucks on the way.  I am in love with the Gingerbread latte, so that's what I ordered.  Then we took off to brave the crowds at the mall. We were able to get the majority of our Christmas shopping done! Such a relief!  We did, however, see a lady come into Victoria's Secret shopping with her two dogs.  We giggled to ourselves as she walked by.  I have never seen anything like it! Who takes there dogs to the mall?  Apparently it's not so strange, because I posted the photo on my instagram/facebook and a few friends said they do that! Too funny! After the mall, my mom and I went to lunch at El Torito and I came home to grab my husband so we could pick out our Christmas tree.

We stopped by a few tree lots until we found out Home Depot had the best price for the size we wanted.  One of the tree lots had some HUGE trees.  It was so crazy! We took our tree home to set it up and grabbed some dinner.  We decided to go to an early showing of Dumb & Dumberer.  We've been wanting to see it since it came out, but didn't want to watch it in a busy theater.  I have never been a fan of huge crowds so I either wait a while or wait till it comes out on DVD.  I love simple date nights!

Sunday I worked on my girlfriends facebook page for her business and then worked on some more custom orders.  Ya'll should help a gal out and "like" her facebook page. I decorated our Christmas tree while listening to Christmas music and organized my desk.  When the hubby got home from giving some kids baseball lessons, we went to the mall to finish his Christmas shopping.  We grabbed Happy Hour and came home to relax in the spa.  It was a great weekend to say the least.  I am so sad it's over!

How did you spend your weekend?

Five On Friday

Happy Friday! Gosh this week has felt like a LIFETIME since I only worked 3 days the previous week!  Can you believe Christmas is like, right around the corner.  I know, scary right?  I am nowhere near close to being done shopping for gifts!  I am going to have a huge meltdown.  [2 more Fridays till Christmas. #Ohmyfreakinggosh]  Today I am linking up with Christina, Darci, Natasha, and April for Five on Friday.. and I'm going to share my 5 Christmas favorite traditions.

[ONE]
Decorating.  I love decorating for the Holidays and no matter how many decorations I already have, I always have to buy some new ones every year.  Don't ask.  I just love the lights and the decor and how it makes your home feel so much livelier and cozy instantly!
Plus, we started a tradition where we buy one ornament that represents that year.  This year we purchased one that was in the shape of a key that says "Our First Christmas In Our New Home." I cannot wait to get our tree and place it on it!

Source ::  How does this not make you feel warm inside?

[TWO]
Baking. Although I am not an amazing baker there is something about baking for Christmas.  It's so fun to create cute new ideas (shown below) and incorporate the normal traditions.  Oh and fudge! My mom always makes the best fudge and only makes it during Christmas.  So I think that makes it extra special with that anticipation waiting for it all year!

[THREE]
Parties.Who doesn't love a fun Christmas party. Whether it be ugly sweater or white elephant, bringing people together to celebrate is always a good thing.  I mean, look at how happy this guy is to be wearing something hideous.  I dig it.

[FOUR]
Family. Christmas is the one Holiday that our entire family gets together.  There's that special warm feeling I get inside on Christmas morning.  Not because of the presents, but because of the time shared with loved ones.

[FIVE]
Gifts. Seriously people.  I love gifts. I love getting gifts and I especially love shopping for gifts.  Being on the hunt to search for the perfect gift for someone gives me a thrill.  I love watching their faces as they open it up.  It makes me feel good inside!   Of course I love receiving them too, but just gifts in general makes me happy.

Wedding Wednesday Q+A

The lovely Bride Q+A Series continues on this beautiful Wednesday!  Today I have Meghan from Champagne and Suburbs sharing her Wedding with you today.

When did you get married
David and I got married June 28, 2014.

How did you meet?
DG moved to NC in August to teach.  He worked at the school where my dad was an assistant principal, which happens to be 3 miles away from where I also teach.  An old family friend of my family's was the principal who hired DG, and he kept trying to set me up with DG.  One Saturday in February, I met an old college friend for a drink.  She told me that two guys were coming to meet us.  I thought she was trying to set me up, but she told me one was married and explained the other guy was tagging along because he was helping her run her soccer tryouts at the high school she taught at.
DG walked in and started chatting and I was pretty distant.  I was on again, off again with a guy from college and we had plans later.  DG told me that he coached soccer and I asked where.  He told me what school and I asked if he taught there.  He told me yes and I said "Oh, funny story!  Your principal has been trying to set me up with you since he hired you in August."  He said that no one had told him about that.  I said "Yes because I wasn't interested."  And we've been together ever since that night.

Engagement Story:
We got engaged on December 5, 2012.  I thought we were taking Christmas card pictures in our new house, but he was really planning on proposing to me and having someone there to take pictures.  His friend came over to take our pictures and they were acting ridiculous.  I mean... one of our pictures was a pose that looked like the DVD cover of Stepbrothers.  I got so annoyed, so his friend said "Can you just come see if you can use one of these pictures?"  As I was looking at the pictures, I saw pictures of DG in the clothes he had worn to work that day on his knee and I got really upset.  I thought they were playing a joke on me, and his friend said "Shut up and turn around."  When I did, DG was on his knee.

What was the one thing you were most passionate about?
I was passionate about making our wedding a reflection of us.  I wanted it to be light hearted, fun, and down to earth.

What was the most awkward thing about wedding planning
So, it was really umcomfortable the night we got engaged that people asked if we had set a date.

How many bridesmaids did you have? How did you go about choosing them?

I had 10.  My childhood best friend and my college best friend were my matrons of honor and stood with me during the ceremony.  I picked my best high school friend, my best college friends, and then my best adult friends to be my bridesmaids.

How long did it take you to find your wedding dress?
I got engaged literally 3 days after going wedding dress/bridesmaid dress shopping for a friend.  So when I went to order my bridesmaid dress, I walked in and saw what I always envisioned my dream dress looking like.  I asked to try it on and it looked awful.  What was worse, is the consultants didn't help me in and out of the dress and wouldn't help me find other dresses.  I went back with a friend because the store had such a huge selection and I was incredibly disappointed again.  Both times I ended up crying in the fitting room.   Another friend got her dress from Lana Addison, a locally owned boutique, and I made an appointment.  My mom came and a few friends who brought Andre Extra Dry.  We had the best time and my consultant really listened.  I found my dress and ended up buying it that day.  It was amazing.

Spill some deets that went on.

I'm convinced weddings bring out the worst in people.  Our DJ was a DISASTER.  We had a spot on our RSVP card for our guests to request a song.  A week before the wedding, we met with him for 3 hours where we went through every single song we wanted played in our 4 hour reception.  On the night of our wedding, he played 6.  SIX!   He also cussed out my day-of coordinator and brought too many speakers, lights, and set up in front of the show piece of the reception.  Also, at our ceremony venue, they didn't cut the grass or fill the fountain which was our backdrop for the ceremony.  But it's all okay.

Any drama? We wanna hear drama!
The most significant drama was that my in-laws didn't like a single decision made.  My father-in-law went around to guests at the rehearsal dinner and said he hoped DG left me at the alter the next day.  I haven't spoken to them since the wedding except for my mother-in-law to tell me how awful the entire weekend was and to blame me for that.  My husband still hasn't spoken to his father.  So, if you have a great relationship with your in-laws, don't take that for granted!

What was your color scheme, and what made you choose it?
Our color scheme was gold, cobalt blue, coral, and cream.

Did you do any DIY projects/etc?

I made glitter champagne flutes for the bridesmaids luncheon, frames for the tables, all the calligraphy, and my mom and I made cotton boutonnieres for the groomsmen.

If you don't mind sharing what your budget was, and if you stayed on track or went over budget?

My budget was $25,000 and we hit right at that.

What was your favorite thing about your wedding day?

I loved having all of my favorite people around for one day.  Loved it.  The entire day was incredible.

What was the most stressful thing about your wedding day?
Trying to make a call about the weather.  It was supposed to rain on the day of our wedding, and they wanted me to call it and move it inside.  I refused, and the weather was perfect!  June could be really hot in NC, but it was about 70 degrees.

If you could do it all over again, what would you do differently?

Honestly, we would have eloped and had a big party when we returned.  DG was the one who wanted a wedding; I wanted to elope.  We had the best time and loved our experience, but I still would have eloped.

What's your best piece of advice for future brides out there?
Seriously, do what makes you and your husband happy.  If you try to make others happy, you either won't make yourself happy or they'll still be displeased.  It's your day with your fiance and that's all that matters.  Also, don't take it too seriously.  We arrived at the Rose Garden early, so we took a spin to a local bar and had a glass of champagne before walking down the aisle.  It was hands down one of my favorite parts of the day.

Thanks so much for being a part of my wedding series Meghan! It was so great to have you and I thought it was very helpful!

Showered With Design

On Wednesday after work, the husband and I started heading out to his parents house for the weekend. We brought our beloved fur babies with us this trip so pictured is Mickey looking out the window. When we arrived, we got ready and head out to town where everyone from his home town parties the night before Thanksgiving.

Thursday morning came around and I sipped coffee while watching the Thanksgiving parade on TV with my husbands little brother.  We enjoyed a nice relaxing day until dinner rolled around and we definitely feasted!  We sat around in a food coma for a few hours before we decided to head out shopping. ( I know, crazy right?)  But they did have some really good deals if you were looking for that kinda stuff.  I got a pair of boots for $20 from JC Penneys and they are sooo comfortable! They were originally priced at $89!!  It was a no-brainer!  We went to Target, a few little stores, and Kohls.  However, the line for Kohls was outrageous so we didn't end up waiting. We ended up shopping till a little after midnight and then went to Denny's for a late meal.  Then we went back home and passed out!

We woke up early Friday to continue our shopping. Brock went golfing while the ladies took on the shopping. I sported my new Michael Kors boots, Michael Kors watch, and Michael Kors purse along with leggings and a jean shirt. We tried out Kohls again, this time the line wasn't as long so we didn't mind waiting.  We also hit up Big Lots, Bath and Body Works and Dicks Sporting Goods.  We ended up shopping till about 6pm.  When we got home I got ready to head over to my husbands friends house to BBQ and play some beer pong.

Saturday we slept in for quite a long time.  Then we helped go through Christmas boxes and set up some Christmas decorations with his parents. We played Wii Bowling and of course I won the first game.  My husband and I are pretty competitive so it was funny that I beat him! We enjoyed a nice relaxing last day, and rented a movie and watched it in the gameroom.

Sunday was our last few hours before driving home.  We helped set up the blow up Christmas decorations outside on the lawn.  I of course snapped a photo with my little dachshund staring at the blow up dachshund.  It was too funny not to!
We had a nice big delicious lunch full of ham, mac n cheese, broccoli cheese rice, mashed potatoes, and rolls and then we hit the road to head home back to reality.  We even saw a rainbow on the way home!  Too pretty!

We had such a nice visit and wonderful Thanksgiving!  When we got home I saw a package from Shutterfly.  I'll go into more detail later, but here is a photo of it.  I am so happy with how it turned out.  It's going to be the middle pillow on our couch!  So so so cute!
